Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (CW4WAfghan) is a volunteer-based, registered charity that has operated since 1996, with thirteen chapters across Canada. Members have helped to raise over $4,000,000 for education projects in Afghanistan such as teacher training, community schools, literacy classes, orphanages, libraries and women’s resource centres. The shared goal of our membership is to make a difference in the lives of Afghan women and girls through education.
Our volunteers are currently planning a 2 1/2 day ATLANTIC Symposium focusing on topics relating to education, mentorship and leadership development that will provide delegates with unique opportunities to engage together as global citizens. This symposium is hosted by the Atlantic Chapter of CW4WAfghan. Special guest speakers include Canadian award-winning authors Deborah Ellis, and activist and writer Nasrine Gross from Afghanistan who runs couples’ literacy classes funded by CW4WAfghan. The event, and the visit of the Afghan delegation, is expected to be covered by local and national media, as in previous years, and is well publicized throughout the country before, during and after the symposium. Event sponsors will be included in all media advisories.
This symposium will provide exciting opportunities for delegates to learn from each other and to expand local, regional and international partnerships in support of education. This important dialogue will facilitate local community contributions towards peace, justice and social development in Afghanistan.
