Tonembee means "Moving Forward with Vision" in the Kamba language of Kenya. We have two major missions:
1. In order to alleviate drought, famine, and deforestation, we supply solar cookers and train the residents of Kithuia Village, Kenya in their usage. We have so far provided 300 families with this simple but incredibly impactful technology which has helped them decrease their use of firewood, protect the lives of children who are routinely attacked and raped while searching for miles for disappearing firewood sources, increase the nutrition of their food (slow cook), and decrease their cholera rates because of simple water sterilization techniques. Our current goal is to provide 700 families with these amazing solar cookers.
2. We are providing education funds to send children who have lost their parents to AIDS and other diseases. We currently have 12 village orphans enrolled in high school and one in her third year of university in Nairobi. She is studying Environmental Sciences. The effect of providing education, accommodation, and safety to children who come from mud huts, no running water or electricity, has been stunning in its impact.
