Aeroplan Miles were used to fly the campaign team to Alberta for We Walk 4Water and we are so incredibly grateful. Here’s a story from Spencer West, Free The Children ambassador and Me to We speaker about why he is walking for water:
"Last year, when I set out with my best friends Alex and Dave to redefine possible by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, your support was absolutely incredible. With your help we raised over $500,000 for Free The Children’s clean water projects in drought-affected communities in Kenya, and we were completely blown away by how many people donated and cheered us on.
But you don’t have to climb a mountain to make a difference.
On May 6, Dave, Alex and I are hitting the road again, but this time we’re bringing the journey home to North America. We’re taking part in We Walk 4Water, an epic 300-kilometre trek from Edmonton to Calgary. For 11 days, we’re walking in solidarity with the women and children around the world who spend over one hundred million hours travelling to gather water for their families every day.
And we want you to join us.
Wherever you live, you can take action on water issues by holding fundraisers in your own neighbourhood. Check out the We Walk 4Water page for ideas on organizing your own water walk or donating to clean water projects.
We’ll be blogging en route, so be sure to check back for more updates . Thanks, and see you on the road!"
Spencer West is challenging schools, families and businesses to raise $25 per person to support Free The Children’s Water Initiative, a year-long campaign to bring permanent sources of clean water to 100,000 people around the world.
