Founded in 2005, Vancouver Poetry House's core purpose is to support the development of new and emerging writers, to promote literacy, to enrich the cultural landscape of Canada, and to give more individuals access to literary activities. Through poetry readings, festivals, workshops in schools, and collaborations with other organizations, Vancouver Poetry House provides venues for poetry and helps people of all backgrounds to raise their voice. Vancouver Poetry House advocates that the oral and literary traditions of poetry serve an equally important role in building communities.

Vancouver Poetry House runs four major programs: the Vancouver Poetry Slam, Canada's most well-attended poetry series; WordPlay, our poetry-in-schools program; Verses Festival of Words, an adult festival showcasing the best spoken word artists from around the world; and Hulllabaloo, The BC Youth Spoken Word Festival, gathering youth from around BC to provide a forum for their voices and connect them together as a community of young writers.
